Ukraine's president invites Magyar to Kyiv
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has invited Hungary’s Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, to Kyiv, according to a letter published by the Ukrainian embassy in Budapest. Zelenskyy congratulated Magyar and the Hungarian people on the national holiday St Stephen’s Day, and said he was ready to continue direct dialogue with Hungary’s leadership. The Ukrainian leader said he would be pleased to welcome Magyar to the capital.
The two leaders met in June on the sidelines of an EU summit, when Magyar said he would prefer bilateral talks to take place in Berehove, in Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region. Kyiv was among the other locations discussed. The embassy’s letter did not give a date for a possible visit, so the invitation does not indicate that a trip to Kyiv has been confirmed.
Hungary closes investigation into Ukrainian cash couriers over lack of evidence
Hungary’s National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has closed its investigation into Ukrainian cash couriers after finding no evidence of a crime, according Ukraine’s Oschadbank legal representation. NAV said the cash and gold seized during an inspection could be traced to an interbank transaction between Raiffeisen Bank and Oschadbank. Raiffeisen Bank International also provided documents confirming the origin of the banknotes and precious metals, as well as Oschadbank’s payment for them.
Oschadban's legal team said the investigation had established that the cash and gold had not been obtained through criminal activity and that their lawful origin was not in doubt. NAV had suspended the investigation in July, saying at the time that the available information indicated the couriers had not committed a crime, although it had not yet decided whether to close the case completely.
US postpones signing 4iG agreement last minute
A term sheet between 4iG Nyrt. and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) was supposed to be signed in Budapest on Tuesday, but according to information obtained by HVG, a last-minute decision was made to postpone the signing.
According to the newspaper, the ceremony was supposed to take place at 4iG’s headquarters, but shortly before the event was set to begin, the invitees received a message from Chairman and CEO Gellért Jászai informing them that the event had been canceled and that the agreement was expected to be signed in late September. According to the newspaper, the American delegation has already left Hungary.
Earlier this month in Washington, Jászai held talks with the company’s U.S. strategic partners and government officials regarding the expansion of 4iG’s collaborations in the aerospace, defense, energy, and digital infrastructure sectors, as well as regional investment opportunities. He held discussions with Conor Coleman, the organization’s chief investment officer, and Christopher P. Vincze, a member of the DFC’s board of directors.
